During the Roman age, Baabdat became the residence of the wood choppers who transported trees to Beirut for their use in ship construction.  Today Baabdat is recognized for its pleasant climate and pine tree groves.  It is also the official residence of the president of the Republic, Mr. Emile Lahoud.
