Roman emperors made of Beit Mery their summer resort due to its high location that overlooks Beirut. Today, a number of renown hotels and restaurants mark Beit Mery as a favorite summer spot.  In winter, the town is also the scene of an annual cultural festival that features international drama and dance groups as well as orchestras and chamber ensembles.
