Jal El Dib is regarded as a suburb of Greater Beirut, as it is only 10 minutes away from Beirut City Center by car.  Its name means "The Wolf's Terrace", having been inhabited by wolves at one time.  Today it has become urbanized with the Beirut-Tripoli coastal highway cutting through it.
