Between
the Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon mountain rages lies the rich agricultural plain
of the Beqaa valley. This fascinating area, crossed by many caravan
and invasion routes retains numerous traces of its long history. The plain
is a checkerboard of fields planted with grain, vineyards and vegetables.
In addition to its archeological treasures, the valley is renown for its
good restaurants, but you will find food has a different emphasis
than in Beirut.
The elevation, between 800 and 1150m, keeps the Beqaa dry on hot summer days
and cool at night. In winter, most days are crisp and sunny.
Many villages in the Beqaa are ideal summer resorts; however, we have only
selected Zahle for the time being until our database becomes complete.
You may explore the Beqaa region in more detail by visiting the beqaa
eco-tourism and
national heritage
towns.
