Jounieh is ideally situated on the attractive Bay of Jounieh on the
eastern shore of the Mediterranean. The city is a blend of the old
and the modern, built in harmony with one another.
This city still keeps some of the appeal of yesterday in the old stone
souk area near ferry terminal. The area known as "Old Jounieh" has
recently undergone revamping to highlight outdoor cafes and restaurants
mixed among boutiques, artisan shops, banks, supermarkets, hotels of all
categories. A good number of restaurants, pubs and night clubs line the
old bay side road from Jounieh northward to Maameltein. Jounieh
is a favorite destination for those seeking fun and entertainment.
The city is famous for its Telepherique (suspended cable car), which links
the city with Harrisa at 600m elevation. From there one can get a
commanding view of the Jounieh bay.
The Casino Du Liban, once a focal point of entertainment in the 60's and
70's has reopened after a complete post-war rehabilitation. It
continues to attract tourists and visitors to its gambling outlets and
international shows.
