(71km from Beirut - 950m)
Jezzine is South
Lebanon's most famous summer resort because of its location and its 40-m
high waterfalls. From that high point, the visitor can enjoy a breath-taking
view of the surrounding villages scattered about a fertile plain and
protected by mountains covered with pine forests, vineyards and orchards.
In the valley is a natural cave known as the Fakhreddine Cave because the
Lebanese Emir took refuge there to escape Ottoman persecution but he was
caught and taken to Istanbul.
Other historical landmarks are scattered around the town the most famous of
which are: the Saint Antoine Convent, (1774); the Serail (1898); the Farid
Serhal Palace, a monumental oriental style building, containing an
impressive collection of valuable antiquities. The town is famous for its
traditional cutlery and daggers.
Several public administration buildings, banks, hotels, restaurants and
amusement centers can also be found in Jezzine.
