(45Km from Beirut - 1735m to 2001m)
The
ski trails of the Faqra Club, south of Ouyoun El-Siman (Faraya-Mzaar),
overlooks the sea and the Bay of Beirut. It is now a private club (the first
private skiing club in the world), but special arrangements are available for tourists and
non-members at "off-peak" times. It is a very chic and
expensive resort yet with good facilities.
Facilities include a first class hotel, member of "Relais &
Chateaux" chain, 200 private chalets, 3 restaurants, a heated
pool, squash court, sauna, 3 tennis courts and a fitness club.
International telephone lines and fax are available in the Hotel. There are
several other restaurants scattered on the outskirts of the club.
The slopes are
equipped with an efficient lift system composed of a chairlift, two ski lifts
and a baby lift. However, the extent of the piste skiing is quite limited
with little to challenge good skiers. The resort also features an
international slalom track, and cross country skiing.
The architecture of the 200 chalets is varied, and the resort is notable
for its gardens, and ponds. Also in the Faqra area is
the
Jisr el Hajar, or natural bridge carved over the centuries by wind and
water. The 34-meter bridge is so perfect it is hard to believe it was
created by nature.
